Afterwards, it's up to you to get the games, tweak them and play them. However, when it comes to Linux, I can surely help you, and that's what we will do today. My experience with PSP2 games, game sources, free downloads, or anything of that sort is extremely limited. We will not be doing any game optimization, graphics improvements or similar. We will focus on the trickier steps, like BIOS firmware, controller configs and such. We will do a native install and not use WINE. This article will show you how to install and setup the PCSX2 emulator on Linux, more specifically, the latest Mint release although, it works just as well on Windows, and probably even better. Nevertheless, I'm attentive to the needs of my readers, and one or more shouted: how the feck do I get me PSP2 games running emulated on a PC? So I stepped in to help them. Let me begin by a big fat disclaimer: the last time I used a game console was in the heyday of Commodore 64. Know when to avoid combat and when not to - if your party is weak, take paths that avoid combat. Running is valuable, you have to know your limits.īe overzealous with usable items, you'll have them pouring out of your ears near the end. So if you're going on a broken blue path on the way to a fight, you will have to engage in two separate fights. This, of course, does NOT include the destination you are on the way to. Broken blue line means that you will fight something along that road, and solid yellow lines mean that you will not fight anything along that road. When on a map, there are two different kind of roads - a solid, yellow line, and a broken, blue line. Higher loathing makes the game harder, and I suspect is the equivalent of like a "torchless" run in DD1, where people will do it specifically to amp up the difficulty. It gets moved up to rank 3 every time you hit an Inn, and certain events specifically say they reduce Loathing. Inns - Items can be used at inns to reduce stress. Positive Relationships - as mentioned above, having a positive relationship means your characters in relationships will, among other things, soothe one another. If they don't offer an opinion, they will not have stress gain. Going against what they think will result in +1 stress to that character. Going with what they think will result in -1 stress to that character. The Man at Arms is not bad, either - level 2 of Bolster can both remove the debuff that gives you stress every turn, it has a 50% chance to reduce 1 stress to each member of your party, and has no cooldown.Īt forks in the road - each character can potentially have a suggestion of where they think the right direction to go is. It has a 3 turn cooldown, but this in addition to the resist effects it gives to your entire party make it great. The Plague Doctor is a great stress healer - I would suggest with your very first mastery point you get at the Inn to give your Plague Doctor a mastery of Ounce of Prevention - this makes Ounce of Prevention heal 1 stress of your entire party every time it's used. So now we'll get into the big one, which is stress management: So with that being said, stress management is very different than Darkest Dungeon 2 - you can't just leave a character alone for a week or two and never bring them to combat. The only potential downside I've seen is that sometimes a character will gain a stress when a character they have a good relationship takes a hit as well. Once your characters have good relationships, they will do all sorts of things - they will soothe your other party members (reducing stress), heal them, assist them in attacks, and sometimes take hits for them. Lower is always better and you want to try your damndest to keep it at 3 or less for as long as you can. In Darkest Dungeon 2, stress is a much more sliding scale. In DD1 stress didn't really mean anything until you hit 100, and then didn't really do anything again until you got down to either 0 (removed the affliction) or 200 (and they had a heart attack). Stress management, additionally, is actually way more important in this game than it is in the first game. Your party all having good relationships is one of the strongest things you can have in the game at this point. If you can recover from this, the stress management is very nice, as it allows you to start building your relationships again. etc.Īt 10 stress your character resets their stress down to 0, loses relationship points, and a big chunk of health. The reactions your party members have to the actions of other party members are based on their current stress level.Īt 0-3 stress, they will pretty much universally have positive reactions to the actions of your other party members when they do react (as far as I can tell the reaction is random)Ībove this, they will start to have more negative reactions at greater frequency to things like kill stealing, healing someone else, buffing someone else, etc. Let's start with the big one, relationship management: I was able to beat the game (in its current state) on my 3rd try, and got very close on my 2nd, using a lot of these tactics: So I wanted to take the opportunity to give people some tips. I'm reading a lot of posts, comments, talking about the soul crushing, overwhelming difficulty of Darkest Dungeon 2 - and, frankly, it feels much more dealing with people not understanding the systems and how to manage them - the game actually, by contrast, feels very easy once you get your head wrapped around some of the systems. When you go to design school-which I haven’t-I imagine day one of design boot camp goes a little something like this: there’s a drill instructor, but they’re wearing Yeezys, and they scream at all the new recruits until one thing and one thing alone has stuck-that design should never get in the way of its own purpose. I know it’s just the number one, which is pretty easy to remember, but it’s still annoying. Now, fine, they want to show off that their chronograph does what very few others can, and I get that, but when the massive great line of text takes up a sixth of the available space and in doing so actually makes the instrument harder to use because it replaces one of the numbers on the scale, that’s annoying. It’s very hard to measure a tenth of a second with a watch that only ticks every eighth.Įnter Zenith’s El Primero, which beats 36,000 times per hour-as it says discreetly on the dial-which is, of course, ten times per second-as it says not so discreetly on the bezel. With our metric system, the next unit down from seconds is the tenth of a second, and-clue’s in the name-there are ten of them per second. And, since humans are prone to gambling, it won’t surprise you to learn that one of the very first chronograph mechanisms was built to determine whose horse had won.Īnd when those differences are split by the merest of moments, well-that’s when you need to slice up a second into more digestible chunks. The very fact that humans aren’t particularly good at keeping accurate time beyond knowing it’s roughly midday and close to lunch is why the chronograph was invented in the first place. So what, right? Not like you can see something happening eight or ten times per second to distinguish the difference. That means, per second, it ticks ten times, twice more per second than your typical watch. If you’re familiar with the history of Zenith’s El Primero calibre, you’ll know it was not only one of the first chronographs that could wind itself, but also the first that had a high beat as well. Mirabeau pursues his own interests, Julien Raymond is of Society of Friends of Blacks (yes, yes, you can start blaming France for the agenda) fights for freedom for everyone, but has peculiar views of slavery.Īfter he passed, it is interesting to share the real story with others. The same Lafayette is clearly hiding something behind good intentions, Mr. What’s nice, those lines are a drop in both sides. And each quest is the work of a personal friend who was founded in the spirit of a personal story humbling from a classic RPG. Most of the characters will join your cause, stopping the old army of walking machines. When activated a special compass highlights the mission’s markers. Even the inventor of automatons and the antagonist are very real people who are inscribed in the narrative (off course with assumptions). Aegis will meet some famous people like Lafayette, Necker, Robespierre and a dozen others. The vast majority of minor heroes lived in those years with active participation in the revolution. With the latter, of course, real story helped. The story is made up of a classic: a clear conflict, intrigue and clear characters. Spiders care about players’ nerves and want everyone to be enjoyed by the story. Which means fast guaranteed death in the cult-like projects but not at Steelrising. If a white storm gets cold, then you’ll lose the ability to attack and bounce for a little while. This energy is completely justified from a logical point of view the mechanism responsible for those movements heats up under heavy load, therefore you need to let it cool down. From the defeated enemies there are souls, both as currency and experience points. The heroine has an excellent strength in her arsenal, such as a rebound and a jump, and a few special moves: one depends on the weapons you have now found in your hands, and three more will open as you progress. The works of From Software and Dark Souls in particular inspire the most modern. The core mechanics are the same as in modern action role-playing games. The greatest fables of France are a majesty. The scenery of Steelrising is most depressing. Fortunately, Aegis is not only in dancing but also in effective combat techniques, he is trained in effective fighting. Many automatons will be destroyed by the journey. In the role of Aegis, we must walk past Paris’s glorious streets, meet the famous tyrans of the Great French Revolution and get rid of the mysterious puppeteer responsible for the surrounding mess. She’s the only one with her own consciousness a lot. In fact, even a mechanical servant didn’t give up to the Order 66 a royal decree, so the population would be kept free from being killed. If the machines have not managed to stop in spite of nightmares happening outside the window, she instructs her personal automaton, dancer Aegis, to move through the guards and stop the machine’s madness. Marie Antoinette spends days in Saint-Cloud, experiencing the tragic death of her father. Among them were reputable figures and masterminds of the revolutionary movement, such as Baii and Mirabeauzatailis. The automatons quickly destroyed the riots. And when king Louis XVI, real life, sent to Paris, Steelrising seems to be dreaming about the topic, what if the monarch had a total battalion of robots under his command? The financial system is already under collapse. Protests are taking place, riots are being broken. This time they switched from fictional worlds to alternative history, based on significant events from the past of France. This time the character editor is very simple. Previously, the French gravitated towards the European action-resolutions and now they have joined the followers of Miyazaki, Hidetaka. But Steelrising stands out from one of many studio projects. The studio worked on different levels of stories, from fairy tale fantasy to martian science fiction. Spiders can be jokingly called the Parisian branch of Piranha Bytes. View from side (cover off) showing Gas regulator and solenoids Whether it is making LOW or HIGH heat is determined by the heater, the idea being that if the room is very cold it makes more heat, then to maintain the temperature it runs lower and more efficiently. This unit, which has 2 stages so it can make LOW or HIGH heat. Here is what we are dealing with: A Rinnai Energy Saver-551F Unfortunately, the furnace is an all-enclosed unit with no external thermostat and it has a single temperature control for both stages. This is mostly because it would be expensive, but luckily, this means I don’t need to monitor 6 different thermostats. The electric heat is not expected to be used much if at all. The apartment is a two-floor town-house, so this may be a tall order. The furnace is intended to heat all the rooms and replace the electric heat. Additionally, there is a single natural gas wall vent furnace in the living room. Each room has electric heat baseboards with a thermostat to control that room. This new apartment has 2 sources of heat. By sensing if the thermostat was “ON” I was able to see if the furnace was heating the radiators. This was controlled by one central thermostat located in the dining room (center room in the apartment). Quick re-cap, previously I had a forced hot water system where a furnace heated water and circulated it through radiators in each room. So this is a perfect opportunity to revamp my existing project with my raspberry pi. I moved over the summer and the new apartment does not have the same type of heating that the last apartment did. I sat across from both of them in a cafe as they both discussed how a proper Traditional Irish Apple Tart should taste. Years later while out with my Nan and my then girlfriend but now Wife Laura, we discovered that my Nanny Betty and Laura both had the exact same opinions when it came to apple tarts. Combine the egg yolks, 3/4 cup sour cream, sugar, and 1/4 cup flour and beat until smooth. Overfill the crust, as apples will shrink during cooking. If the apple tart wasn’t up to her standards it was pushed to the side and she would be pretty vocal about her disapproval of the tart, to put it politely. Arrange the apple slices in overlapping circles on top of the crust, until it’s completely covered. The apples had to be soft with no solid bits, they had to be sweet but with just a little bit of a sour edge and the pastry had to by the right thickness. My Nan was pretty serious about apple tarts in general. Nanny Betty’s traditional Irish apple tart recipe was always perfect and a welcome treat for a visiting grandchild on a weekend. Its loaded with apples, so you dont have to feel too guilty about enjoying one or two slices of. One book I was disappointed to have to stop reading was The Historian, because it didn’t employ the use of speech marks. It’s often not a case of me deciding not to finish a book, it’s a case of me finding that I never finished that book. I don’t know how you can go on reading something you’re not enjoying, because I don’t find I have the inclination to do so. But really, if that’s taught me anything, it’s to give up on a book if you’re not enjoying it. There are a few dramatic and interesting moments, and in this case I was basically glad to have read all the way to the end, as it is an achievement, and if I hadn’t read all the way to the end I would never have known what I was missing. I DID read all the way to the end of The Secret History, which was a little bit disappointing, because the climax of the story happens around the middle of the book, and the last three hundred pages are just this uncomfortable tense epilogue of sorts. The only book I was half way through before giving up was The Goldfinch, because I really felt that it wasn’t going to lead anywhere positive. It’s rare for me to not finish a book, because what I’m really doing is not even finishing the first chapter, which to me, seems more like not starting a book, rather than not finishing a book. I don’t usually barely get started on a book if I don’t like it. How do you feel about DNF’ing books? Do you do it often? Do you review books you didn’t finish? WHICH MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER, but there you are! Even if the narrators voice is just annoying – NOPE, moving on! In saying all of that, I find it easy to DNF audiobooks when I’m not enjoying them. Then, at the end of that chapter….I’m nosy enough to go one more, and one more… I give myself permission to DNF if I still hate it after one more chapter. And, so often, I’d look back a few weeks, months, or at one stage a couple of years later and think “I’m so glad I kept plodding along, look where I am now!” So, when I’m reading a book that has me bored, irritated or wanting to throw it at the wall, I literally start to repeat “Just one more chapter” to myself. Just go one more day and see what happens. In those dark times, I always ended up telling myself “Just one more day”. When situations seemed so hopeless that the light at the end of the tunnel wasn’t just dimmed, it looked like it had been switched off. I know how much time and effort writers put into their work and, even if it turns out the book wasn’t for me, I’d still feel as though I was doing them a disservice with a low rating when I hadn’t actually read the whole book.Īlso, on a general life level, I’ve had times where I honestly thought my life would never turn around. I also couldn’t bring myself to review a book I hadn’t finished. Or maybe it’s because I’ve read one too many books where I really wasn’t loving it for the first half, then suddenly it all came together? I can’t give those Book 5 star ratings, because no matter how great the ending was, if the beginning dragged, it still dragged, BUT I’ve definitely read books I’m glad I persevered with. Maybe it’s because I’m really really nosy and can’t stand the thought that I might MISS OUT ON SOMETHING. “I read for enjoyment, if I’m not enjoying it, why would I continue?”īut I just can’t seem to do it. Swiss researchers said Monday they had calculated the mathematical constant pi to a new world-record level of exactitude, hitting 62.8 trillion figures using a supercomputer. The project was able to achieve 100 Gbps egress bandwidth, a huge improvement on the 16 Gbps of egress available when they did the 31.4-trillion-digit calculation in 2019. Scientists Just Broke The Record For Calculating Pi, And Infinity Never Felt So Close. Instead, it is infinitely long and never forms a repeating pattern. This means it can't be written as a fraction. The numerical constant defined as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter is recognized by most as 3.14. The tech giant attributed its improved result compared to last time it made the attempt in 2019 to improved networking and storage. Even those that do not particularly care for math will agree that pi, or ,' is fascinating. Google Cloud says it used it’s generally available Compute Engine service to make the record calculation. For this reason, pi is said to be 'irrational.' Pi's digits extend infinitely and without any pattern, adding to its intrigue and mystery. Despite its frequent appearance in math and science, you can't write pi as a simple fraction or calculate it by dividing two integers (.3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3.). Though pi related calculations pop up in everything from the theory of relativity to engineering problems and GPS mapping, these types of extreme calculations are generally used as a benchmarking tool by computer scientists, to prove and assess the power of their hardware. Swiss researchers recently calculated pI to its first 62.8 trillion decimal places. |
